Say No To Fear

I have a dream, but FEAR is the main reason I am not achieving it! How many people admit this? How many people confess to themselves that the main reason they are not out there grabbing their dreams with both hands is because they are afraid of something?  That something could be the fear of failing, the fear of the sacrifice they might need to make in order to attain those dreams, the fear of hardship and loss. Or it could simply be, the fear of the unknown. img via: @tresmonikhspace

spaceMore often than not, FEAR is the number one reason most people sit back, day in, day out, watching the years go by while pointing to the reasons why they haven’t achieved their dreams.spaceComments like, ‘I want to set up my own business, but I do not have enough money or I want to quit the job I hate  but do not want to give up my salary‘ become a regular occurrence in their lives.

spaceValid as they may seem, over time such comments can help build a mental wall so high, it becomes an even bigger challenge to overcome.Of course, this is not to say that people who succeed in achieving their dreams never experience those moments of doubt and fear. spaceRegardless of how experienced, determined, intelligent and focused someone is, there are moments along life’s >spacespace

spacejourney when you suddenly realise you do not have the answer to the question ‘what if this does not work out?spaceSuch are thoughts that the majority of us experience during our attempts to make things happen in our life. There is no discrediting how powerful they are in influencing our next move and decisions.spaceIf we are not careful they are capable of taking over our self-belief and stripping our confidence in what we believe we are able to achieve.space They can be crippling to our progress and if not treated with caution can be the very determining factor between going after our dreams or sitting on the fence and being filled with regrets.spaceBelow are some of the things to remember when fear suddenly occurs while trying to achieve your goals.

1. YOUR DESIRE TO ACHIEVE THAT DREAM WILL NEVER GO AWAY

spacespaceMy mother has always been kind enough to share her wisdom and one thing she always emphasised on was the fact that time waits for no one.

space

As you grow older this becomes more apparent and there is an even greater realisation that time cannot erase the desire you might have to do something you are extremely passionate about.

space

This seems a much worse scenario as there is no way of turning back time to grab that opportunity again. Fear, on the other hand, can be dealt with head on, right now and you can get past it.

space

It is, therefore, up to you what you prefer to experience years from now. Regret or a satisfaction of going after your dream.>

spacespaceAllowing fear to stop you from going after what you want will only result in frustrations and what ifs.Tweet this

spacespaceA Simple Note To Self

space

The sceptic may claim it a naive attempt to strive for a life without ever experiencing regrets. True, but so is living life with the hefty price of not going after your dreams. Regret is like a ‘debt’ that nags at you with the ‘what ifs’ and hangs over your life like a dark cloud.

space

And the only way to pay it off is through action. Doing those things that you should be doing in order to bring your true potential to life. Opt for withdrawing from the bank of time rather than the bank of regrets.space

2. THERE IS NEVER A PERFECT TIMING

spaceWaiting for the perfect moment for everything to fall into place in order to do something might never happen. In the mean time, time is moving forward and before you know it, years have gone past.

spaceRemembering this simple fact, that the perfect moment might never arrive, will help you realise that there is no time like the present to start doing something that you are truly passionate about.>space

spaceSo now is the time to get that dream off the back burner and start bringing it to life. Yes, it will be difficult but surely it is better to go through that while doing something you are truly passionate about

than being comfortable in misery. The key is to rely on your common sense, plan well and fight through the obstacles. Soon you will be at the finish line and feel proud of your achievements.space

spaceA  Simple Note To Self

space

When you picture yourself at a later stage in life, do you see yourself saying “I wish I did” Or “I am glad I did?” If you don’t do anything about your dream when you have the time, these are questions that might hit you like a tonne of bricks in years to come.

space

Did you launch that business you always wanted to open? Did you change career paths to do something you always dreamt of?

space

Perhaps you always wanted to be self-employed, did you ever give that a go? Did you take up travelling to see all those places you always wanted to visit? Did you relocate for that job opportunity that came up?>

Such are questions that you should be proud to answer in years to come and not be greeted with a sense of loss for not going after your dream. So why don’t you make today the day that you start?spaceAnd for every reason, you come up with, on why you can’t right now, what solution can you come up with to tackle all those obstacles that are standing in your way? Remember that if you search hard enough you will always find the answer to your problems.

3. IT IS YOUR DREAM, NO ONE ELSE’S

spaceA big mistake most of us make is weighing other people’s opinions and viewpoints above our own. Of course, it is very important to speak to relevant people about your dreams.

spaceFamily, friends and mentors can all offer different perspectives on your situation and this can help you understand what you need to be considering on your journey to success.space However, there might be times when people simply don’t support your idea.>

spaceUse their constructive criticism and reservations as an opportunity to improve what you are trying to achieve.spaceIt is very important to remember that just because some people do not completely agree with your dream, does not mean their opinion is more valuable than yours and you have to give up.

spacePlacing higher importance on what people think can result in self-doubt and fear. So try by all means to avoid this and instead use what they say to fuel your ambition.

4. WHERE THERE IS A WILL, THERE IS A WAY

spaceObstacles will occur and there is no getting around that reality. So don’t be surprised when they arrive and find yourself defeated by them.spaceInstead, exercise your mental muscles and prepare for anything that is coming your way. When you are mentally strong, you are fit to get through anything and find a solution to a problem that you are experiencing.>

spaceWith this comes confidence and  eliminates the feelings of fear because you know you are able to face anything.spaceSo before you write down that perfect plan of how you will get things done, ask yourself first, ‘am I mentally strong enough to go through it?’spaceIf the answer is ‘yes,’ then you will always have the will to find a way forward despite the challenge you face. If the answer is ‘no,’ then chances are you will crumble at the first sign of trouble.space

Are there any books you can read, conferences you can attend, classes you can take?>

spaceWhat are your Insights?
